Guardian Angel Basset Rescue

bassetGuardian Angel Basset Rescue is a non-profit organization that aims to facilitate happy endings for thousands of homeless Basset Hounds living in Illinois, Eastern Missouri, and Indiana. On the surface, Guardian Angel Basset Rescue benefits Basset Hounds, but it also enriches the lives of those who are fortunate enough to call one of these dogs a furry family member.

The ultimate goal is to find forever homes for these Bassets, however, there are several steps along the way. Veterinary care is the first step and largest expense. Larry Little, President of Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, created an organization that makes a huge difference in the world of rescued pets and we could not be more proud to work with him, his team, and the wonderful Basset Hounds they serve. Dwight Veterinary Clinic has supported this amazing effort for the past 20 years by doing everything possible to improve the health and happiness of these Bassets. This includes vaccines, heartworm testing and treatments, dental care, surgical procedures, and much more.

With the right veterinary care, a Basset is one step closer to finding a safe and loving home. Until a foster home or forever home is found, we happily make space in our boarding facility where we make sure they are comfortable and have everything they need.

Guardian Angel Basset Rescue holds regular events that benefit the Basset Hounds in their care. Visit their website at to learn more about upcoming events and how you can contribute to this admirable cause. If you would like to volunteer, donate, or be a foster parent, your help and support is immeasurable. Please contact Larry Little, President of Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, at or 815-584-1044.

At the end of the day, it’s all about the dogs.

Message from Larry Little, President of GABR

We have worked with the Dwight clinic for almost 20 years now.  We always have received fabulous service – just recently, we were reminded again of how great you all are.

One of our good volunteers had to bring her Basset, Vera, in for that last visit.  Gina was extremely emotional but met with Dr. Haag who, as always, was very compassionate and helped Vera make her final journey.

In addition, Jill was wonderful.  She knew how bothered Gina was so she spent every moment helping her remain as calm as possible.  Dr. Haag and Jill remained, even after closing time, to help Gina.

Gina wrote us a note outlining her experience.  In my opinion, she will never take her pets anywhere but to Dwight.

The best day in the formation of Guardian Angel Basset Rescue was the day we started working with Dr. Cronin and the Dwight clinic.  Dr. Haag is certainly carrying on that tradition and with employees like Jill, we’re not going anywhere else.
